There is presently only three known Glacial Clay deposits in North America. One belongs to a large International cosmetic company, and two belong to private individuals, one of which is exclusive to Glacial Marine Clay. The clay deposits are classed as mineral claims, and the regulations regarding recovery of product is covered by the Mining Act of Canada. All known Glacial Clay deposits have been found on, or close to, the North West Coast of British Columbia, Canada.
Recovery
Glacial Marine Clay Inc. mine their clay at an elevation of 250 feet above sea level. The deposit presently being mined has been determined to have in excess of 2,000,000,000 kilograms of recoverable clay available.
Covering this deposit is approximately ten meters of overburden, this overburden material, mainly shrubs and soils, has accumulated over thousands of years. To get access to the clay it is stripped clear, exposing a layer of pure glacial sediment about one and one half meters thick.
This is known as Glacial Clay. It is simply the result of glacial sediment settling to the bottom of an ancient lake, or inlet, over thousands of years. When the Ice Age came and the landmass rearranged, the water became displaced and disappeared, this gift of nature was compressed and purified and became Glacial Clay. Glacial Marine Clay Inc. is fortunate to have one of these deposits available. The clay is dug by hand and packed into sterile plastic bags.
Processing
Processing the raw product into a powder is a lengthy and complicated procedure. During the process the clay is heated to a temperature of over 240 degrees Fahrenheit. By exposing the product to temperatures this high the risk of contamination from Pathogenic Bacterium is eliminated. The product is then stored in sterile 1,000 Kg totes until ready for further processing into packages or delivered in bulk to private label packagers. 90% of the product is sold as a bulk powder.
Biocide
A Biocide, for purpose of explanation, is any type of product, which is mixed with another product to purify, or attempt to purify the host product. Some companies use chemicals, heat treatments, or a host of very good products available on the market. Glacial Marine Clay Inc. recommend the use of Liquid Germall Plus. The F.D.A. and the EEC Countries accept this Biocide. INCI Name; Propylene Glycol (and) Diazolidinyl Urea (and) Iodopropynyl BUTYLCARBAMATE. Used at a level of 0.4% by weight. Glacial Marine Clay Inc. reserve the right to use any antibacterial agent that is applicable to the country the product will be sold in.
